Week 6 : JUXTAPOSITION . Article by : Nurain Ariff

JUXTAPOSITION

* Juxtaposition can be defined as placing two variable , side by side their contrast or similarity are shown through comparison .

* Many creative processes rely on juxtaposition.

* By juxtaposing two objects or words next to each other , human brain will automatically associate or transfer meaning.

*Usually " turning" something familiar to something less familiar or vise-versa.

Example Sentences that always use :

~ The drama of the juxtaposition  was lost in the shuffle.

~ And it's not just a juxtaposition  of pattern but of time as well,combining the not-so-distant geologic past with the present.

~ Subtle coloured backgrounds harmonise the juxtaposition  of black-and-white sketches and prints with colour reproductions.

~ That's a bigger juxtaposition but no more weird.

Juxtaposition also can be explain in easy way like this :

" TURNING something unfamiliar to something familiar "

The Analogy of Juxtaposition

Metaphor is a figure of speech which consists of two different things that are linked by some similarity. The comparison that shows it is obvious are not consider as metaphors. Therefore, there are metaphors occur when the two different ideas are being connected to imaginative ways and agreed to be dissimilar at first.

=> NOT using as / like

Simile are two images that bring the same meaning and are connected to each other and the two description of the two images are combined using 'as' or 'like'.

=> USING as / like

These are the few examples that is related to either metaphor of similes:

Life is like a box of chocolates

Life is like a roller coaster

Love is like a cup of coffee

Man is like a field full of grass

Categories of Analogist

It can be divided into two :

=> LOGICAL ANALOGIST are analogies.

=> AFFECTIVE ANALOGIES is emotional resemblance.

As a designer we cannot run from juxtaposition.
We have to change from something new that people cannot know to something can make people know.
Another analogy of juxtaposition that is related to either metaphor of similes that can i say is

Example 1 :
Love is like a chili,
When it's gets spicy,
it makes you getting hotter and hotter,
even a glass of water can't cool it down.

Example 2 :
Man or Woman is like a mortar and pestle,
It is as hard as a rock,
and whenever a problem occurs,
it will never run away from it,
and choose to solve it.

Thank You...

We as a designer could have juxtaposition in our step to become a creative person. Through this step and method, we will find a thousand of idea from only one subject matter. Beside, with juxtaposition, we will make something ''impossible'' to something that ''possible'' and become well known.

As an artist who needs creativity to move further , Juxtaposition plays a big role in our normal daily life . Finding things around us to be turned to a masterpiece needs juxtaposition to do so .

In this life , comparing unfamiliars to the familiars is important as it is part of the ways to gain ideas to create better innovated minds . It proves that juxtaposition had been used by lots of other artist to imply it to their very own master pieces .

Linking the unfamiliar to the familiar also opens the mind to look out for the world from different angles and to be aware that that are more to search in this world so that we can bring it to our life and live by it .

As mentioned in the blog , creativity relays on Juxtaposition . This is because Juxtaposition can be defined as placing two variables , side by side their contrast or similarity are shown through comparison .

Juxtaposition can also be seen in a different type of angle depends on a certain individual . It could also interpret different meaning towards an object that has never been known before .

Not only that , it can also be used as a metaphor . Most people prefer it as a metaphor to connect the unfamiliar into a familiar .

As a designer , we need to enhance our Juxtaposition skill to make our artwork more interesting with different meaning. That what makes a great designer .

Juxtaposition is something that every creative people can't avoid. Is shows a new perspective to an individual.

Juxtaposition is basically putting two things side by side and comparing them based on similarities or differences. For example, comparing Friends with Flowers, or comparing Relationships with Cotton Candies. Juxtaposition can also be seen as a form of metaphor. And with all those statements an theories, an image of something can be created.

Juxtaposition can be known as a method in creative problem solving, designs or other creative pursuit that involves two unrelated objects towards the goal or objective which is usually the solution.

For example, a box of chocolates and life as no relations to each other, but when we apply juxtaposition to it, we can say that "Life is like a box of chocolates" where in both of them we get surprises and unknown what flavour we are going to get.
